Residentials (Y1 - Y6)

Educational Residentials 2024/2025

Residential trips are an integral part of our Inspire Curriculum, providing a range of first-hand experiences that foster children’s independence and support their personal development. From Year 1 to Year 6, our educational residentials are coherently planned to ensure a rich set of experiences that align with the curriculum, enhancing both educational and social growth. These trips form a key component of our extensive personal development curriculum, helping children develop confidence, resilience, and teamwork. We take a thoughtful, planned approach to arranging each residential, recognising their importance in broadening pupils’ horizons. By offering a wide variety of enriching experiences, we aim to maximise the opportunities for children to engage with the world around them and develop a deeper understanding of their place within it.

Year 6 visit Edinburgh, Scotland (Wednesday 13th – 15th November 2024)

Our final urban residential takes pupils to their third capital city in the UK, following previous visits to London and Cardiff. Edinburgh provides a rich and varied experience that combines history, culture, geography, and science, offering pupils valuable cross-curricular learning opportunities. A visit to Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace immerses pupils in Scotland’s royal history, building on their KS1 topic of Kings, Queens, and Leaders. The Scottish National Museum allows for hands-on exploration of diverse historical and scientific exhibits, while Dynamic Earth engages pupils with geography and science topics such as Earth’s formation, ecosystems, and climate change. A visit to the Scottish Parliament enhances their understanding of democracy, linking directly to the PSHE curriculum, and a theatre visit broadens their cultural horizons, fostering an appreciation of storytelling and performance.

Year 4 will go to London (Monday 10th – Wed 12th March 2025)

In Year 4, children continue to enhance their learning through the Inspire Curriculum, building on the knowledge and skills gained in previous years. A visit to the British Museum allows them to search for the Rosetta Stone, explore its significance in the foundation of languages, and examine ancient artefacts from the Egyptians, Ancient Greeks, and Ancient Romans.

Building on their understanding of governance from Year 3, the children visit the Houses of Parliament to deepen their knowledge of democracy and how it shapes our society today.

To bring the world of literature and performance to life, the children also visit Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. Here, they learn about how theatre was practiced hundreds of years ago and explore how Shakespeare’s language and storytelling have influenced modern English.

Year 3 will go to Cardiff,  Wales (Wednesday 26th – 28th February 2025)

This is the first urban residential that our pupils take part in, marking their first trip outside England to visit Wales. Staying in the capital city of Cardiff, the trip focuses on our Opening World Curriculum, including a boat ride on the River Taff to explore the city’s geography, a visit to an ex-mining pit to learn about Wales’ industrial heritage, and trips to St Fagan’s Museum and Cardiff Castle to delve into Welsh culture and history.

As part of our PSHE curriculum, pupils visit the Senedd (Welsh Parliament) to deepen their understanding of the rule of law and democracy, learning about governance in Wales. This residential provides pupils with valuable cross-curricular experiences, helping to broaden their horizons and build independence.

The Year 2 residential is the second trip that our children take part in, building on their previous experiences and further developing their independence. This residential focuses on helping pupils become more confident and comfortable staying away from home for an extended period.

During the trip, children will engage in a variety of adventurous activities that encourage teamwork, problem-solving, and resilience. These activities include canoeing, where children will learn new skills and navigate the water as a team, as well as taking part in high rope challenges and abseiling, which help to build their confidence and ability to overcome fears.

In addition to the adventurous activities, children will take part in a nature walk, giving them the chance to explore the outdoors, learn about local wildlife, and develop a deeper connection to the natural environment. The residential provides a well-rounded opportunity for personal growth, encouraging children to take on new challenges, build stronger relationships with their peers, and grow in independence, all while having fun and making lasting memories.

Year 1 Barnstondale, Wirral (Monday 30th June – Wednesday 2nd July 2025)

The Year 1 residential is the first overnight trip that our children experience at our school, providing a valuable opportunity for them to develop their independence as they stay away from home for the first time. The focus of this residential is to introduce children to a range of outdoor and adventurous activities, helping them to build confidence and resilience. Activities such as climbing on a climbing wall, den building, archery, and orienteering give children the chance to explore the outdoors, develop new physical skills, and engage in teamwork. These experiences encourage children to challenge themselves both individually and as part of a team, fostering a sense of achievement and supporting their personal growth. By taking part in these hands-on, exciting activities, pupils not only enhance their geographical skills but also strengthen their ability to collaborate, problem-solve, and communicate with others.
