The Big Battery Hunt

Start: 23rd Apr 2019 9:00am

Duration: Summer Term 1

The Eco Committee have decided to launch a very exciting campaign called the Big Battery Hunt.  Did you know that each year we throw away about 600 million batteries?  What do you do with batteries when they run out of energy?  Did you know you can recycle them?  The Eco Committee are taking part in the hunt because it can take batteries 100 years to decompose.  Batteries contain chemical that can pollute the soil and water, which animals and plants rely upon to survive.

During Summer Term your child will learn how important it is to recycle batteries and what happens when people don’t. Your child has been challenged to find and collect as many batteries as possible, please help them do this. They can be as creative as they like by going to work spaces, places of worship, local businesses and the wider community to enlist everyone to help make sure that no battery ends up in landfill.

Your child has been supplied with a collection box, please get them to bring this into school when it is full so that we can add it to the main container and enter the competition.  Children will also be able to record how many batteries they have collected in class and there will be a prize for the class that collects the most batteries!

Happy Hunting!
