World Book Day 5th March 2015

WorldBook Day is being celebrated next week, on 5th March 2015.  Reading is something that we really value at The Beacon and we understand the importance of children getting enjoyment from their reading. At the moment we have many exciting, new initiatives taking off in school; all aimed at improving children’s reading and building their interest.

World Book Day is an excellent way to kickstart things!
In school we will be dressing up as our favourite well known book characters, and prizes will be given during assembly – catwalk show - for the best costumes!

Please make sure children do come as storybook characters or as their favourite author - NOT footballers! The aim is to get children thinking about the books they read or children if they do not wish to dress up, they can bring in a prop from their favourite book.

Children will be participating in reading activities during the day as part of their daily lessons.

We will also be having a book swap at the end of the day, in the hall or outside on the playground (weather depending). This will require children to bring in a book that they no longer want (this needs to be in good condition) in order to swap their ook for another! Obviously we need children to participate in this activity or it will not be able to run, so please, please help your children to get involved.

At home you can encourage your children further by visiting the website http://www.worldbookday.com/ and getting involved with some of the many great activities online..

Thanks for all your continual support – Keeping in mind the words Children’s Laureate Julia Donaldson, ‘Inspiring children to read is the greatest gift you can give them,’ let’s make this World Book Day the best to date!

Kind Regards
Miss Yorke and the school council
